This last week has probably been one of the worst weeks of my life and I feel the need to share. Before I continue, this will not be a regular broadcast and certainly not a rant. It’s just me sharing some ideas for educators in Israel to allow us to cope. Feel free to use this broadcast as you see fit. I just want to, in some way, assist those having similar feelings to me and suggest that music and song may be a start to our healing and strengthening our resilience.
🎶
- Taylor Swift Safe and Sound
If and when you will meet your pupils, a nice way to start may be a song, in English. This is not an easy time and I suggest that these songs may be a calmer way to start the lesson.
🎶
- The Zombie - Cranberries
At this stage I wouldn’t do more than print the words for the students so that they can follow and relate to how they are feeling. If you are online, open a collaborative whiteboard and ask the pupils to write or draw to express how they are feeling. This can be done in Padlet, Google slides and more.
Here are some songs for elementary pupils - “I have a go” channel - https://www.youtube.com/@Ihaveago/featured
Slow things down, take a big deep breath - Love this song and I highly recommend it to be used with the younger pupils.

And another one
🎶
- Strong by Itty Bitty Beats.
An uplifting song to raise self esteem, motivate and inspire kids, tweens and teens. Reminding them that they are brave, loved and strong.
“Music therapy allows you to express the emotions you may have been struggling with, which couldn’t be tackled through dialogue or other therapeutic methods. Music therapy offers a low stress environment for patients. This allows you to let your guard down and work through the emotions that you may not have been comfortable speaking about in other settings. It’s a wonderful option for those dealing with traumatic memories.”

A little bit stronger by Sara Evans
Seeking Help
I recommend that you reach out to the relevant professionals at your school and in your communities that can assist with this kind of trauma as we build up our resilience and mental health. Ask them for ways to reach your pupils if music is not an avenue for you.

I will end this broadcast with a song by the Bee Gees, written by Barry Gibb about Israel in 1971.

Please be safe out there and look after yourselves. Hoping for peaceful days ahead. 👏🏼
