Little darling

It's been a long, cold, lonely winter

Little darling

It feels like years since it's been here

Here comes the sun

Here comes the sun

And I say, it's all right

Happiness is a positive emotion/feeling that comes from experiencing joy, contentment, or satisfaction. Well-being, on the other hand, is a broader concept that encompasses not only happiness but also the overall quality of our lives. It considers factors like physical health, social connections and a sense of purpose.

I started with well being as this week we held an introductory meeting for the National Well Being Day for all elementary school teachers.

Dear Teachers,

It was wonderful to see so many of you at our third Elementary Meet-Up last night! We hope you're as excited as we are about The Triple Wellbeing National Event. Below is the link to our Genially, where you'll find:

•  The recording from the webinar

• The three teaching units

• Padlets for sharing your learners' work

• Two Escape Room activities

• Information about the competition

• Details about the song (which we hope to turn into a national video)

More details about the Live Broadcast Event on May 14th will be shared closer to the date, along with information about the Teachers' Wellbeing Events.

Take care of yourselves, your communities, and our planet!

Quotes about looking to tomorrow and well being

“Just one small positive thought in the morning can change your whole day.” – Dalai Lama

“When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the aeroplane takes off against the wind, not with it.” – Henry Ford (Founder, Ford Motor Company)

“Optimism is the most important human trait because it allows us to evolve our ideas, to improve our situation, and to hope for a better tomorrow.” – Seth Godin (Entrepreneur and best-selling author)

The sun will definitely come out tomorrow but for Sydnie Christmas it is already here. She went on to win Britains Got Talent. What a voice!!

Teaching a song

I am often asked for the best way to teach a song. I am not sure there is one way but here is a suggestion. Most important of all: The song should be clean and singable.

Introduction: Begin by introducing the song to the students. This could include sharing the title, artist, and any relevant background information. You could have the song playing in the background when the students walk into the class. This already sets the scene for something different.

You could also introduce the vocabulary beforehand with a game.

Example - Matching cards, Bingo, Wordsearch, Crosswords etc.

Preview the song: Play a short clip of the song for the students to get a sense of the melody and lyrics.

Discuss the lyrics: Ask the students to listen to the song again and pay attention to the lyrics. After listening, discuss the meaning of the lyrics and how they relate to the overall theme of the song.

Practice singing: Have the students practice singing the song together, focusing on proper pitch and rhythm. If needed, teach line by line with lots of repetition.  I ask the kids not to clap until they know the words of the songs. At times the loud clapping and banging on tables can hinder the listening process

Perform the song: Once the students feel comfortable singing the song, have them perform it for the class or a small group. Encourage them to add their own style and interpretation to the performance. You can ask different groups to sing the song, in front of the class vs back of the class. Row 1 vs Row 2. The more you repeat the song the better it is for the students.

Reflection: After the performance, ask the students to reflect on their experience learning and singing the song. Encourage them to share any challenges they faced and what they enjoyed about the process.

Homework: Assign any follow-up activities, such as practicing the song on their own or researching the artist or style of music.

Gamification: Ask the students to prepare a cloze activity or an online quiz, or presentation about the song.

Most importantly - Enjoy the activity. Depending on the song and the theme, one can learn so much from these songs.

Have a look at this fantastic video that also sheds light on this topic.
