Nothing says Friday more than our biweekly updates and of course the end of the week. Been a challenging few weeks. Still not an easy time for all of us but I am sure the bonds you are making with your pupils is one that will last forever.
I love this video of Rita Pierson how she describes that every child needs a champion to look up to and respect. If you have not seen this video it will be the best 7 and a half minutes you have ever spent. If you have seen it, I can never stop watching it.
This brings me to the concept of TED talks. Yes it is not directly related to music and education. TED talks (Technology Entertainment Design) is an American media organization that posts talks online for free distribution under the slogan "ideas worth spreading".
I am showing this here as an alternative summer program for your students. Find a vido that your students will enjoy and prepare a few generic questions about the video.
Who is the speaker?
What is the topic about?
Why did you choose this video?
What insights do you gain from the video?
What questions would you like to ask the presenter?
Write an email to the presenter etc.
This kind of project can be designed for the summer vacation and it allows the students to stay in an academic frame of mind for a little part of the vacation - Which is important.
Here is a few examples of music related topics for your pupils. I recommend this from 6th grade upwards.
Digital Tool of the Week
Pearltrees
Pearltrees allows users to create virtual libraries and global communities of practice that collaborate to curate content.
It is an excellent tool that helps users organize and update curated content for best practices in all 21st Century skills.Users can create collections within collections which makes differentiation and personalization possible for all levels and subjects.
I do believe that we are coming to the end of our school year. We are still not sure when that will be but we do know that it will end soon. This is the penultimate update before the end of the term. Hang in there and keep singing.
I want to end with a link to this wonderful presentation made possible by Areej Ziod who is the Teacher and the beautiful voice of her pupil Noor Mohammed from Albaten Elementary School
Umm ul Fachem
Have a great weekend and speak soon.
