Happy New Year. Tonight, we celebrate the Jewish New Year and I can only hope that next year will bring a new reality.

The talented Maccabeats produced a different version of “Bashana Haba’ah” and they added an English verse as well.

“Soon the day will arrive when we will sing together,

And the distance will just disappear

And the children will smile, in a world that’s gotten better,

So, let’s bring in a healthy new year

Wait and see, wait and see, what a world there can be

And we know that there’s always tomorrow.”

What I love about their music is their ability to create their perfect songs in harmony, with their voices and mouths alone. Amazing Stuff.

Our local superstar Netta Barzilai recorded a fantastic version of the Mary Poppins song, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”.

I really liked her version and this directed me to the Disney Sing along channel.

The next three weeks in lockdown are going to be a lot of fun.

I am sure you all know of the Stay Up To Date site of the National English Inspectorate.

Here you will find updated and relevant links for all your English teaching needs.

You will find a link to our site – “Learn in Tune” and I want to point out another great site – “Let’s Talk”. The site aims to promote spoken English in Junior High and is filled with wonderful activities.

And finally a shout out to Jessica Goldshlager Kamir

She sent us this message

"I did a really cool opening that incorporated music for my fifth grade lesson today. I played them the song, "7years" by Lukas Graham without the clip. I asked them to write down all the different numbers they heard in their notebooks. They should have heard the numbers: 7, 11, 20, 30, 60, and 61. I then asked them to tell me what numbers they heard in the song. After that I asked them to tell me what they think the numbers in the song represent. After one or two tries a student was able to guess different ages, which is the correct answer. I told them that the lyrics, "Once I was 7 years old; once I was 11 years old, etc" represented the past (I was) and "Soon I will be 60 year old" represented the future ( I will). After we understood the meaning of the song, I played the song again with clip. I then asked them to listen and watch and tell me more words that they were able to recognize in the song (ex: mom, dad, friend, dream, big, big world). They really enjoyed the opening to my lesson and I really enjoyed doing it with them. I thought to share this with you because you also incorporate music into your lessons."

Thanks for sharing and please continue to share ideas and examples that you do with your pupils, online and in the classroom.

Wishing you a fantastic weekend and a Happy New Year. May you lockdown experience be as painless and uplifting as possible.
