And just like that – the holidays are over. I hope that you managed to put your feet up, recharge your batteries, listen to music, sing like no one was listening and dance like no one was watching. I know I did.
Welcome to the new school year and once again I am hoping that schools will open regularly in 5 days’ time.
I hope that all students of all ages will be able to meet their friends and teachers and we will have a fruitful year.
I’m reminded of a beautiful story of saving the starfish. You can see the story here
So, I ask that we dream for a calmer academic year and that things will sort themselves out for the best.
A million dreams are not enough yet it only starts with one.
SEL – This term has been thrown around a lot lately and I think we should all be taking note and devoting time to it. I am of course referring to Social and Emotional Learning and this is so important to the student’s development in class and at school. CASEL defines SEL as an integral part of education and human development. SEL is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions. (https://casel.org/what-is-sel/)
I think that the last few years have shown us how important SEL is and I am sharing links on how to incorporate these ideas in your class. I am sure that a lot of us have been SEL ambassadors for many years by just teaching well. Look out for SEL and please do not just see it as, yet another abbreviation.

YouTube is full of these kinds of songs and here is a playlist for elementary learners – starting with the Singing Walrus

Getting to know you games in Wordwall. Although you can only create five new activities, you can enjoy using games that have been created by the Wordwall Community. Here are two ideas.
Musical Joke of the Week
