What did we do when we needed corn? This song and many others were sung by us when we were young and dreamt of a brighter future. In connection with this, just last week we celebrated 90+ years of our youth movement - Habonim Dror Southern Africa. Ex Chaverim got together and shared memories, songs and great times. It was a wonderful occasion. What stood out were the songs that we used to sing and the fact that many people remembered the tunes and lyrics without any problem.
Memories
What is it about tunes and lyrics that our mind remembers for years on end? I am sure that I wrote about this in a recent post but my short term memory, is not as good as my long term memory.
Music presents the information in a way that can be more easily learned and retrieved from memory because it provides the listener many other cues in addition to verbal information (Hyman & Rubin, 1990).

Here is another song from those days in the youth movement
I used to play my old banjo - It’s a silly song but a great song to sing with your students.
I was in a lesson this week, and once again I was happy to see students singing in unison with huge smiles on their faces. They know that they are singing. We know that they are learning.
Here is another goodie
You can change the words to make it more pertinent to your students.
And now for the moment you have been waiting for
E-Talent!
E-Talent Competition!
Yes, the word is out and the competition is at its start. Registration has begun and this is how it is going to work.
This year we are glad to include 7th and 8th grades as well. Each school will be allowed to send 5 performances only.
This means that if you have more acts in the competition, you will need to have a mini E-talent competition in your school to find the performances that you want to submit. All the information will be sent out in a few days via your inspectors and counsellors. If you would like to register already please fill in this form. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdidBCzY4d8HuNMPdP-eWgCJN9-hj0C4HX-wq5AHjMSibq0zQ/viewform
Within a few days of registration, you will receive a unique code for Flipgrid, for your school. Your recordings will be uploaded to Flipgrid and that is how we will receive your students’ amazing submissions.
Please see the presentation for more details about E- Talent
Digital Tool of the Week
Canva Revisited
Canva.com
Canva is the tool that I use the most. Did you know that you can remove a video background from your video in Canva? You do not need a green screen.
You can also create an internet site in Canva.
