I was inspired this week by the Eilat Talma teachers. TALMA - The Israel Program for Excellence in English. There are ten teachers in Eilat that come to teach from abroad. In the framework of the city Speaking program, they recorded a city song “English in Eilat” together with the community of Israeli teachers of the city.
The pupils of Eilat will learn this song and will present it at the city English day in May.
What an amazing project.
Music is my life, it is in every facet of my life and when music is life, create your own. There is also worth in taking a tune and changing the lyrics to suit your topic.
I did just this when the song “Depacito” by Luis Fonsi took the world by storm. I loved the melody yet the lyrics were not appropriate for the classroom. So I changed the words completely to make the song easily singable for 3rd and 4th Graders
You can find the lyrics here
Hebrew to English
Teachers approach me about using certain Hebrew songs and translate them into English. This is not an easy job yet it is possible. Please remember that one needs the permission of the original artist or lyricist to do this publicly. Here are a few examples that Learn in Tune did a few years ago.
One can find the backing tracks and the songs being sung by pupils as well.
Professional Development Final Call for elementary and jh teachers
There are still a few places in the Learn in Tune course. We will be starting next week. Hurry and register. The course is suitable for elementary and junior high teachers only.
Looking very forward to meeting the many teachers that have already registered.
Here are registration details again and one can find the syllabus here as well.
E-Talent Competition is open
Over 80 schools have already registered for E-Talent 22-23.
This year we are glad to include 7th and 8th grades as well. Each school will be allowed to send 5 performances only. This means that if you have more acts in the competition, you will need to have a mini E-talent competition in your school to find the performances that you want to submit. If you would like to register already please fill in this form. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdidBCzY4d8HuNMPdP-eWgCJN9-hj0C4HX-wq5AHjMSibq0zQ/viewform
Within a few days of registration, you will receive a unique code for the Flip grid, for your school. Your recordings will be uploaded to Flip and that is how we will receive your students’ amazing submissions.
Please see the presentation for more details about E- Talent
Your principals were sent this letter via the inspectors - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VV5oI6sajAfO-ss3tf4qTBelxigMWpFJKQR5UG9UJ-Q/edit?usp=sharing
World Cup Soccer
Yes - It is happening. You may not know, yet your students do. The Soccer World Cup is starting next week and this is an amazing sporting event for the whole word. This is an ideal opportunity to talk about sports and teaching English through this. Teach your students about winning and losing, sportsmanship and how to read players names in English for the younger grades.
"I promise, I promise, I promise you now
Everything, everything gonna work out
Every tomorrow, no matter what goes down"
Thanks to Adriana Politi for sharing this wonderful list of soccer songs ahead of the World Cup Soccer Championships. We love when our teachers share their incredible work they are doing in class.

Digital Tool of the Week
Whatsapp has allowed users to create communities. This essentially allows you to join your groups together and send out one broadcast message to everyone. At this point do not do anything and definitely do not leave this group. There are no changes being made in this group yet. I will definitely let you know in due course.
Whatsapp also announced polls in discussions. A great way to see who wants what when on whatsapp without having to create a whole questionnaire.
Musical Joke of the Week
I was humming a tune while ploughing the wheat field this morning
You could say I was singing in the grain
Here is a fun version for kids. (You might remember the adults singing this song in the last broadcast.)
