“Teach your children well…

And feed them on your dreams

The one they pick's the one you'll know by”

Just last week we lost a true music legend. David Van Cortlandt Crosby (August 14, 1941 – January 18, 2023) was an American singer, guitarist, and songwriter. He was a founding member of both the Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash, and also embarked on a solo career.

Growing up I remember the songs of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Their songs are very much a part of my playlist. I think that their songs can still be enjoyed by your pupils today.

If you do not know CSN&Y they are definitely worth listening too for their wonderful words and beautiful harmonies. Check out “Our House”, “Southern Cross”.

E-Talent

We have had numerous requests to extend the submission date. We will be extending the submission date until the 10th of February. The Flip program for submissions will lock automatically at midnight on the 10th of February. Best of luck to all the students taking part.

Cyber-Safety Week

The Cyber-Safety Week will be run in all schools in Israel in the next few weeks. While I was visiting a school yesterday, the coordinator asked if we could look for a chant about this topic. I suggested Chat.GPT

The result is a chant that Inbal Guelmann-Mizrachi and I adapted and added a backing track from Youtube.

- This is the backing track.

Here are the words. This is a classic example of HI with AI - (Human Interaction with Artificial Intelligence.)

ChatGPT, Howie Gordon and Inbal Guelmann-Mizrachi.

Have a listen and enjoy. Sing it with your pupils at school and send us videos of them singing this song. Be safe on the web.

Cyber Safety

When you're on the web, be smart

Don't give out your name as a start

Don't talk to strangers online

Protect your id, keep that in mind

Chorus:

Cyber safety, cyber safety

Keep yourself safe and sound

Cyber safety, cyber safety

Be smart and don't fool around

If you see something bad

Tell a grown-up, don't be sad

The web is not a place to fight

Be aware, and be polite

Chorus:

Cyber safety, cyber safety

Keep yourself safe and sound

Cyber safety, cyber safety

Be smart and don't fool around

The keyboard is a typing tool

Write nice things, even at school

Surfing online, it’s very real

Take good care - that’s the deal

Chorus:

Cyber safety, cyber safety

Keep yourself safe and sound

Cyber safety, cyber safety

Be smart and don't fool around

Resouces for Digital Safety Week

Resources for digital citizenship for junior high and high can be found on the Portal

From the field

I received this from a sixth grade teacher this week. As part of the Learn in Tune course she prepared a lesson for her class around the “Ben E King” song “Stand by me”. She created a quizlet of the vocabulary and produced a presentation of the song. She asked the children to share which person/pet they have standing by them. After that the students created Wordles for each other with the words. She mentions that the lesson was great and some of the kids even knew the song. The children really shared and opened up and it was really emotional.

Music will reach your heart and soul.

“The best music is essentially there to provide you something to face the world with - Bruce Springsteen”

Digital Tool of the Week:

Crosswordlabs

Crossword Labs is a crossword puzzle maker. It's the simplest and fastest way to build, print, share and solve crossword puzzles online. In seconds you can make a crossword from any text or song.

Musical Joke of the Week

At any given time, the urge to sing “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” is never more than a whim away.

“Our House”

P.S. Someone told me about a way to lose weight by putting slices of bread on my head. It's a loaf hat diet.

Enjoy the weekend and have a Shabbat Shalom and a restful weekend.
