I used the title today for a number of reasons. The power one person can have as an educator

and facilitator as we guide our students on their learning path.

I “borrowed” this title from the book written by “Bryce Courtenay”

The Power of One is a 1992 drama film loosely based on Bryce Courtenay's 1989 novel of the same title. Set in South Africa during World War II, the film centers on the life of Peter Philip Kenneth Keith, an English South African boy raised under apartheid, and his conflicted relationships with a German pianist, a Coloured boxing coach and an Afrikaner romantic interest.

Here is my favourite song from the movie. Wait for the crescendo!

This “Bryce Courtenay’s book is related to the digital tool of the week - so check it out lower down.

I am very fond of the Star Fish Story. I often use it to show the power of one and the difference that ONE person can make:

We can really make a difference!

Another person who is really making a difference is DJ Raphi. He has another song this week about bullying called the “Anti Bully Dance." His videos are a testament to what song and movement can do for our students. He should be heard in every classroom:

The Power of One: A Teacher Can Make Every Child Feel Important

Children need someone who says, “You mean something.” Often, that person is a teacher.

Read what Tony Kushner thinks here:

E-Talent

The judges are finalizing their points and we are collating the data. We are amazed at the talent and the way children have performed in English for us. We are convinced that this competition is not just for winning prizes. It is heartwarming to see children act, sing, move, bake, play and more in English. In our eyes you are all winners.!

Please note that the winners will be announced in the next broadcast in two weeks time.

We will have a number of winners so please have a little more patience.

Beth Jacoby and Larry King wrote this beautiful rendition of “The Power of One."

“It starts with one voice that opens the gate.

If we just make the choice, to end all the hate.

The power of one, that refuses to wait;

The power of one.

If you always judge only what you see,

then you'll never know that there's more to me.”

Digital Tool of the Week

Bookipedia:

Welcome to "The Future of Reading: How Bookipedia is Changing the Way We Use Books." Bookipedia is a revolutionary platform that uses AI to enable communication with books and enhance the reading experience.

So I had a chat with PK (the main character) from the book mentioned above and it was a surreal experience. Sure this is AI, but it was quite brilliant how accurate the chat was. I did a similar exercise with “The Wave” written by Todd Strasser

I spoke to Ben Ross, the teacher who created the experiment.

Thanks to Ran Mekler (an English teacher at Hartuv elementary school) for this link and the Wordwall Games he created.

Be sure to check out the links as these are great activities for your pupils to play and learn:

Musical Joke of the Week

My wife told me to stop it with my Phil Collins impressions. So I had a haircut and bought new clothes.

Take a look at me now! 🙂

Final Word.

Check out this amazing Youtube Channel called “Read Right Now." The first video in this post is from there.

Lots of books to choose from to read aloud with your pupils:

A final song about the power of one:

Donna Summer

Enjoy the weekend and have a Shabbat Shalom and a restful weekend.
