“What else could I do

I'm so inspired by you

That hasn't happened for the longest time”

It seems like such a long time since I last broadcasted and worthy of a Billy Joel start. Best known for his first hit song, 'Piano Man', in 1973, Billy has written and recorded thirty-three Top 40 hits in the United States. He is a six-time Grammy Award winner, a 23-time Grammy nominee and one of the world's best-selling artists of all time, having sold over 150 million records worldwide. Billy Joel is the sixth-best-selling recording artist and the third-best-selling solo artist in the United States.

Many a campfire in my youth we would be singing with the guitar and “la, la, la, ladeda to the tune of, “Piano Man”

What inspired the song?

The song is a fictionalized version of Billy's own experience as a piano-lounge singer for six months in 1972–73 at the Executive Room bar in the Wilshire district of Los Angeles.

You can read about the song here

Updates with Learn in Tune

We have completed yet another Learn in Tune professional development course and the feedback from the teachers has been extremely heartwarming and positive. Many teachers are now excitedly singing with their pupils and enhancing their lessons with Karaoke and different digital tools. Watch this space for more courses next year.

As part of the course we ask participants to suggest songs or ideas for our website. So in the summer, we will be updating our website.

E-Talent

The competition has come to a close this year. We managed to receive over 850 videos with nearly 2000 children performing in many different forms with Oral English. Many children sang, elaborated about the cities they live in or their unique hobbies. Some children decided to document their cooking abilities whilst other children told dad jokes or “slammed poetry”. Anyone who took part is a Superstar and each child received a participatory certificate from the Ministry of Education for their wonderful effort. Well done to you all.

The judges selected 50 pupils that really stood out and their names and school names can be seen on our site.

We will update soon with their videos in the same area on the site.

A huge thank you to all the teachers that encouraged and believed in their students to achieve what they set out to achieve. BRAVO!

You ought to know now…” Taken from this next song

I sometimes come across teachers that have never heard of Learn in Tune or the benefits one can get for your teaching on a day to day basis. If you meet these teachers too, please share this link with them. (Only if you want to)

This is a link to our bi-weekly broadcasts, updates from English Inspectorate and hot off the press announcements. And it does not cost a thing.

Brain Breaks

In class, brain breaks are structured quick breaks using movements, exercises or sensory activities. Brain breaks can be done individually or as a whole like a game together.

My favorite “brainsbreaker” is Dj Raphi

Here he is with a new Youtube video.

Your pupils will love you for it.
