“Revolting Children” from Matilda’s Broadway Production. “Revolting Children” must have caught your eye. There is no such thing as a revolting child in my opinion yet there may be children that revolt.
🎊Teaser 1: Important information about professional development lower down - Don’t miss it.
Matilda was written by Roald Dahl and this Broadway adaptation is fantastic. If you haven’t seen it live, do not worry as “Netflix” will be bringing out a movie adaptation of the Broadway success in December.
Feast your eyes on this official trailer.
Suggestion for the classroom. Read Matilda with your students and then bring in the movie Matilda (with Danny De Vito) or the Netflix version with Emma Thompson). There is so much language and music that can be acquired here.
Take a look at Revolting Children in Hebrew which can be used to contrast between the two languages.
🎉Teaser 2 - Remember to look for Professional Development with Learn in Tune
I am starting with the above clips for a number of reasons.
We all understand how important reading is and what better way to read books that really involve the kids. Add another angle of a movie and a song related to the book. You have a winning combination.
Have students practice reading passages from the book and then have them send you their recordings to Flip (previously Flipgrid).
When they are proficient they can assist you with reading in class.
Children can act out scenes from the book and / or create dialogues.
Matilda is just one of thousands of options to choose from. I remember my teacher reading the “William Series” to me when I was in elementary school.
Did you know that you can find so many books and more at the Internet Archive? It is free once you register and you can borrow a book (digitally) for an hour to read to your class. Books like “Treasure Island”, ”Black Beauty”, Charlie and Chocolate Factory and many more.
Here is a Karaoke version of the song
🥳Professional Development - And here it is. I am very happy to announce that we will be opening our 5th cohort of Learning in Tune PD course starting late November. All the details can be found here😌. Spaces are limited and I ask that you check the dates for the sessions before signing up. Unfortunately we have had issues of teachers registering, taking the place of others and not turning up for any of the sessions.
All the information can be found here at this link
The link to the course content is there as well as the link to sign up. Sign up early to avoid disappointment.
Enjoy English Project - Here is a link to excellent resources for all elementary and kindergarten teachers for early English acquisition. Fun songs, action and movements with melodies. Lots of fun and enjoyment to be found here.
Let’s not forget Mondly…
Did you know that the Ministry of Education has purchased 1000000 licenses for Mondly for all the 5th and 6th graders? What is Mondly? An app that can be played on any device and Utilizes a combination between the bilingual and grammar-translation method, whereby students embark on a journey to become functional bilinguals, with a strong emphasis on verbal proficiency. MOE will grant access to all grade 5-6 pupils for the duration of the year. The aim is to enrich pupils' language learning experience with Mondly. The children achieve this by immersing themselves in the game and learning new vocabulary, speaking and reading.
If you are a 5th or 6th grade teacher and have not registered - please do here https://bit.ly/MondlyIL
