A Star is Born the movie
A Star Is Born has been remade four times, in 1951 (a television adaptation) with Kathleen Crowley and Conrad Nagel, in 1954 with Judy Garland and James Mason, in 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson, and in 2018 with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.
Shallow – The hit single that of the movie soundtrack is an amazing rock ballad and many people love the song.
Shallow
I bring this up for two reasons:
1) I am running a course of the use of videos in English language learning I cannot underestimate the value of the videos and of course the music that supports them.
Just thinking about songs that were written and then the video that was added – the outcome, a better understanding of the whole picture.
The other way around is also true. Videos that were produced and the songs that were added to create complete meaning.

2) This week I was sent a video from my country of birth – South Africa. The harmonies and the views are breath-taking. Imagine the song with or without the video.
Enjoy the harmonies.
The Ndlovu Youth Choir has done it again. They’ve set out to send shivers down the spines of many South Africans, nay, the world, and judging by their latest rendition, they’ve achieved just that.
The talented group of singers performed a chill-inducing cover version of Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s duet Shallow, from the movie A star is born. The song was made even more special as it was completely translated into a local language. If you’re unable to understand the words being sung, don’t worry, the emotion behind the music is universal.
Even better is the fact that the music video was filmed right here in beautiful Cape Town, featuring Table Mountain as a backdrop. The song has many Africans brimming with pride, and many took to social media to share their thoughts on the spectacular cover.

Musical Joke of the Week
Do you know why the U-2 bomber plane is still flying after 65 years?
Because it still hasn’t found what it is looking for.
