Warm Welcome to another bi-weekly broadcast from Learn in Tune.

"Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket

Never let it fade away

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket

Save it for a rainy day "

I remember this being sung to me many years ago to liven up my spirits and to make me feel better. Just the optimism of the song and the positive way of thinking inspire me.

“So overall we would say the entire innocent, if you will, sentiment behind this song is in fact indicative of the era in which it was released. “Catch a Falling Star” by Perry Como is like a 1950s’ version of Pharrell’s “Happy“. And what the narrator is saying is something like once you find a little bit of happiness do your best to hold onto it, sort of like putting bliss in your pocket instead of money.”

I started with this song for a bit of optimism in these times, and I extend my thoughts and wishes to all of you who are suffering or healing right now.

“Here’s to you—steadier, stronger and better every day.” “Think of this as the universe telling you to watch more TV.”

E-Talent Update

Well done to the 200 schools that registered. That is nearly 5 times more than last year. The registration is officially closed and now we're waiting for your performance submissions on Flipgrid. In light of the current situation we have decided to extend the submission date until the 18th of February 2022. We hope that this will allow schools and pupils the time to get ready and produce their clips. If you have already sent your video in, you do not have to do anything else. Winners will be announced at the Zoom in Zoom out conference on the 8th of March.

Spread the Word

Every month, the National English Inspectorate publishes a digital bulletin with the goings on in the Inspectorate. If you haven’t received this or if you haven’t read it yet…please click here.

I cannot believe that it has been eight years since this song came out. And it is still a classic.

“Music therapy is an established form of therapy to help individuals address physical, emotional, cognitive and social needs,” said Mirgain. “Music helps reduce heart rate, lower blood pressure and cortisol in the body. It eases anxiety and can help improve mood."

I am a firm believer in this and recommend you read the full article here.

Digital Tool of the Week

Qrtoon

Qr codes are great to be used when directing your pupils to a certain link. Now you can turn your boring QR codes into catchy artworks. No worries, they will still work the same way as your original codes. You can upload a picture of yourself and the program changes it into a cartoon qr code.

Try it out and have fun.

Musical Joke of the Week

Sad News. I broke up with my girlfriend Lorraine because I was seeing another girl named Claire Lee. The good news is that I can see Claire Lee now Lorraine is gone.

And a special treat - Bobby Mcferrin improvising:

Shabbat Shalom. Have a great weekend all, stay healthy and be well
